When I first heard of rice whiskey, sake came to mind. I wasn't sure what to expect when I visited J.T. Meleck for my first ever single barrel selection, but this whiskey was an unexpected surprise and is one of the best I've had.
When prices of rice began to drop 7 years ago, Mike Fruge, known for rice and crawfish farming, started looking at other ideas for his rice crops. He decided to try his hand at distilling spirits. He focused on bringing something different to the market, creating a 100% rice whiskey that provides unique and bold flavors, using 100% American rice grown right on their farm.
